Police arraign man for allegedly raping ailing sister

A middle aged man, Jacob Jume was yesterday arraigned before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly raping his sick younger sister (names withheld) who was on admission in a private hospital in Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that the 30-year old patient who was receiving treatment at Tersoo clinic in Naka, was allegedly raped by her brother and staff of the clinic, after having injected her with a substance suspected to be a sedative.
He was said to have taken advantage of his sick sister few minutes after the nurses and doctor on duty at the time had made their routine ward round and gone on break.
At the hearing of the matter, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector James Ingwe told the court that one Julius Aondona had reported to the police in Naka, Gwer West local government that the accused had forcefully taken advantage of his sister in a hospital.
”One Julius Aondona had few days ago reported to the Police in Naka that the accused, who was a staff of Tersoo clinic in Naka, had sexual intercourse with his sister who was a patient at the hospital after injecting her with a substance which made her loose consciousness.”
At the hearing, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction; but in her ruling the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Thereza Wergba ordered that the accused be remanded at the Makurdi prison.
She also adjourned the case to the 9th. of January 2014 for further mention and commencement of the trial.
