Building collapses in Port Harcourt

A two storey building under construction on Akpajo road, Elelenwo caved in Wednesday morning.

Eyewitnesses  said some of the builders were resuming for the days job when the incident occurred.  Vanguard gathered that no life was lost.

At press time, the gate to the premises was under lock and key.  The workers could not be traced for comment.

Those who spoke said poor mixing of the concrete used for the decking and the pillars were largely responsible for the ugly development. They also blamed the 10mm rods that were allegedly used for the decking instead of 16mm.

In another development, a hit and run driver allegedly knocked down one of the ladies engaged by the Rivers state Environmental Sanitation Agency to sweep major roads in Port Harcourt.

She was reportedly killed Wednesday morning by the hit and around driver around Market Junction on Aba road. Vanguard gathered that the hit and run driver immediately sped off after the sad incident.

The accident caused a traffic gridlock at that portion of Aba road as good Nigerians made effort to gather the deceased dismembered remains to a morgue.
